New Card Range

John Knight, director of Firebrand Art a new greeting cards publisher, spotted artwork by eekbatik featured in an article in Worcestershire Life magazine. He had this to say…

"I was drawn to the vitality and colour of the artwork and I set about trying to track down the creators, which wasn't easy, as the article was pretty vague in terms of credits. I then met Marie-Therese and Sarah Jones in their wonderful studio at The Fold, Bransford and was even more enthusiastic once I'd met the artists and seen the work first hand…. the fact they were producing abstract art as well as pictorial canvasses meant the brand had double the potential."

Firebrand Art and eekbatik soon agreed a licence deal and the range of 12 cards were designed. The range comprises 6 pictorial images based on art inspired by children’s drawings and 6 spontaneous abstract designs created by Sarah and Marie-Thérèse.

Firebrand Art has high hopes for the range. Guy Barnard, John Knight's co-director, said “When we were planning the range, we did some un-scientific research and people loved the artwork, so we're hoping we get the same reaction from retailers and their customers."

Eekbatik cards from Firebrand Art are 160mm square format, printed on FSC-certified stock and are recyclable. They are individually cello-wrapped with a recycled envelope and have an RSP of £2.25. The full range can be viewed here...See card range

Ledbury Poetry Festival Flags

In the spring of 2008 eekbatik were commissioned by the Ledbury poetry festival to produce ten batik flags to  adorn the town during the annual two week long festival. The organisers wanted something bright and eye catching and having seen examples of eekbatik's work approached them to do the job. The flags were designed by 6th formers at John Masefield High School under the guidance of Sarah and Marie-Thérèse. These designs were then transposed onto silk using batik methods and finally made into flags. Over the next 2 years 20 more flags will be produced by eekbatik working in conjunction with children from John Masefield School.
